'Can't get a job without experience, can't get experience without a job'

How many times have you heard that. But why is experience so important? The reason is that over a period of time you naturally learn additional skills that are crucial to your work. It is the skills themselves that are important, not the amount of time taken to learn them.

At Qualitas we have the solution to this problem. We go further with your training than just getting you through the test. We have developed a short but intensive on-line training module that will give you the skills that could otherwise take up to six months to gain by trial and error on the road. We call it ProADD meaning Professional Advanced Driver Development.

Could you find a job without these extra skills?
Many training companies will tell you a licence is all you need to get a job but what do the employers say? You may be lucky and find an employer willing to take you on after you pass but it is quite unlikely. The reason is that LGV drivers are subject to a whole range of rules and quite complex legislation when they get behind the wheel of a large truck. Drivers hours and tachograph regulations, roadside checks and enforcement, construction and use regulations are only a few of the things a driver must fully understand if he does not want to lose his licence as quickly as he got it.

What do employers consider ?
The problem for employers is that the operator and transport manager as well as the driver are held equally liable in law for any offences the driver may unknowingly commit. If the company has too many offences recorded against them it can threaten their operators licence. If they lose that the company cannot continue. The employer has a legal obligation to ensure that each driver is fully conversant with all the rules and regulations. All in all it is just too much hassle for most employers and they feel safer employing someone that already has the skills.
