What
licence is needed for these vehicles ?
People that have passed the car test after 1st January 1997 can
only drive vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes maximum weight. The full LGV
licence however is only required for vehicles greater than 7.5
tonnes. There are many vehicles in between these 2 limits and to
drive them a category C1 licence is required. To take this test
candidates must be at least 18 years old (21 for LGV licence).
Most Ambulances and many horsebox
lorries fall into this class of licence. In fact most health
authorities will not employ anyone not holding a C! licence.
