What licence is needed for these vehicles ?
People that have passed the car test after 1st January 1997 can only drive vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes maximum weight. The full LGV licence however is only required for vehicles greater than 7.5 tonnes. There are many vehicles in between these 2 limits and to drive them a category C1 licence is required. To take this test candidates must be at least 18 years old (21 for LGV licence).

Most Ambulances and many horsebox lorries fall into this class of licence. In fact most health authorities will not employ anyone not holding a C! licence.

How do I obtain the licence ?
  • Have a C1 medical and apply to DVLA to add C1 provisional entitlement to existing driving licence
  • Take a C1 theory test
  • Attend our 4 day C1 course and take DSA driving test

What is included in the course ?
Licence and medical application forms
Theory test training pack
4 days category C1 training
C1 practical test
