What is ADR
ADR is "The Carriage of Dangerous Goods By Road (Driver Training) Regulations". These regulations cover the training of drivers carrying dangerous goods in tanks and packages. In order to be legally qualified to drive a vehicle carrying dangerous goods, a driver must be in possession of an ADR vocational training certificate issued by the appropriate authority.

How many drivers does this affect
The latest available figures indicate that around 53% of all drivers from the very smallest vans up to the giant articulated lorries are covered by these regulations. Nowadays it is becoming more difficult to get into the transport industry without holding an ADR certificate.

How does a driver become qualified
The only way to achieve the ADR certificate is to go through the following procedure with an approved training provider: All our ADR candidates are trained through our associate company Sterling Training.

(1) Attend and complete an approved training course and practical assessments

(2) Pass the relevant examinations

(3) Obtain a Vocational Training Certificate which will be valid for 5 years for National and International journeys throughout Europe.

How long is the course
The course takes 5 days to complete. This will however cover you for tankers, packages and 7 different classes of dangerous goods. There is a 1 day extra course if you specifically need explosives added to the list of dangerous goods on your certificate.

How many exams do you need to take
To achieve the full ADR you will need to take the following 10 exams
(1) Core exam
(2) Tanks exam
(3) Packages exam
(4) Class 2 Gases exam
(5) Class 3 Flammable Liquids exam
(6) Class 4 Flammable Solids exam
(7) Class 5 Oxidising Substances exam
(8) Class 6 Toxics exam
(9) Class 8 Corrosives exam
(10) Class 9 Miscellaneous Substances exam
All the above exams are multiple choice exam papers requiring 70% correct answers to pass

What is our pass rate
Typically our courses achieve between 90% - 95% 1st time pass. However if you do happen to fail 1 or more papers you are invited back FREE OF CHARGE to retake any you may fail. You only pay the exam fee.
